August Empties

Summer is gone and school will start next week. August has been hot and humid, making a challenge for my skin to break out more. If you have read my previous posts about my obsession of sheet masks, you would know I have tried a lot of new sheet masks this month.  There are certainly hits and misses for these sheet masks.

Hair Products:
Dove Refresh +Care Dry Shampoo
Batiste Tropical Dry Shampoo

I use extra dry shampoo in the summer time. Batiste is still my go-to. Dove is also very nice. It doesn't leave an obvious white powder residue. It smell amazing and I often use that to freshen up my hair, especially being out in restaurants where food scents are extra strong.

Skincare Products:
Drunk Elephant  B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel
GlamGlow Supermud Clearing Treatment
Boscia Makeup Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil
Clinique Clarifying Lotion
Effaclar Duo

Drunk Elephant hydration gel is a first product I try from the brand. It is a deluxe sample size I got from Sephora. It is very hydrating and perfect for the summer. Boscia cleansing oil is my favorite cleansing oil and this is my second bottle already. Effaclar Duo is also in my staple skin care routine. Can't live without that. GlamGlow Supermud Treatment used to be my go-to treatment mask. Whenever my skin is acting up, I spot treat with it and often it works miracles. This has to be my second or third finished jar. But this treatment is pricey and dries up quite fast. So I am switching up and trying out other products.

Clinique Clarifying Lotion was my first ever skin care product I was introduced when I was a teenager. Nice to use it again. It is a very effective toner. Might be a bit strong for sensitive skin at times though.

Makeup:
Chosungah22 C& T Blender Fresh Mix
Fresh Sugar Treatment in Petal

Chosungah22 C&T is my absolute favorite  makeup base/light coverage foundation. It gives my skin a healthy glow. Will always re-purchase this. Another staple is the Fresh Sugar Treatment. Even though it is a pricey lip balm, I always go back to that.

Skincare:
Lush Celebrate Hand and Body Lotion

Love this Lush hand lotion. It is a bit too heavy for the summer time. But I used that throughout the winter and it helps moisturize my hands immensely.

I tried out a LOT of sheet masks this month. I know I shouldn't be trying out so many different brands and types in such a short period of time but I was home in Toronto earlier and I hoarded a lot of them and wanted to try them out and wanted to get more if they are good while I was in the city.

I am not going into detail in every single mask. Dr. Jart Water Replenishment is very hyped up and I found it at my Winners at a discount(half price). It performs just as well as my cheaper alternatives so I don't think I would buy any more. Sephora Charcoal Nose Strip is quite amazing. Much better than the drug store Biore one.

Forencos 7 Days Masks - I didn't try all these all in one week. I did try them all within a two-week period. To me, they all perform quite similarly. I got another box of  Black Pearl Brightening as I find that most promising.

Candles:
Bath & Body Works Strawberry Vanilla 3-Wick Candle
Bath & Body Works Pina Colada Smoothie 3-Wick Candle

Both are amazing summer scents and not overpowering. Hope they will come back next summer.

Burberry has a new beauty box this year. Last year was my first year getting one from Sephora and I am so happy about all the products in the box. Check out my blog post from last year. This year, they switched up the lipstick and blush which are shades very neutral and suitable for all skin tones.

Included:
Nude Radiance No.01
Cameo Blush No.02
Lip Velvet in Rosewood No.421
Mini Kabuki Brush with velvet pouch

Left: Cameo Blush
Right: Lip Velvet in Rosewood

Rosewood on my lips

Really love these luxury brand beauty box. Excellent way to try out a few products and not break your wallet.

What is on my radar

What is on my radar

I admit I have been doing pretty good in controlling my splurges on makeup. Besides my latest obsession with sheet mask and skin care products, I haven't bought any new makeup products. But that does not mean I have lost interest in makeup.  Fall/winter and even holiday collection is gradually coming and I know with the Sephora VIB sale in Oct/Nov, I would be doing major damage on my wallet already. For now, I just have a few things on my radar.

What is on my Repeat Purchase List?

There are so many amazing make up/skin care products in the market and for me to keep repurchasing them says a lot about them.

When I look through my back up stash in my make up room, these keep popping up. As soon as I am down to a 1/4 empty of that product, I would run out and buy another one.

Boscia  Makeup Breakup Cool Cleaning Oil
I have tried a handful of cleaning oil and this one is by far my favorite. It does an excellent job in removing my makeup, does not irritate my skin and even my eyes(yes I rub them on sometimes to remove my eye makeup). I have tried other cleaning oil but the texture is sometimes too runny or too thick, making it hard to spread out to thoroughly cleanse my face.

I know I can't live without this amazing toner after I forgot to bring it with me on a trip once. I notice my skin is much calmer when I finish my cleansing routine at the end of the day with this.

La Roche Posay Anthelios Sunscreen
If you have been reading my monthly empties for a while, you wouldn't be surprised to see this on my list. I love this sunscreen. What more can I say?

Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover
Hands down best eye makeup remover, especially if you wear only waterproof mascara like myself.  Does not irritate my eyes and remove eye makeup and mascara beautifully.

My sister-in-law introduced this awesome Korean foundation to me a year ago and I have been using it every single day. I like the medium coverage and still make my skin look like skin. I use this as a base and if I want more coverage, I would apply some more foundation on top. If you like dewy, glowy skin, you would love this. Only downside to this is it is hard to buy it here in Canada. It is available on the Sephora US website but not the Canadian website, probably due to different SPF restrictions. I always have to get this from a reputable Korean ebay seller.

I started using this setting powder 3 years ago and even though I have purchased a handful of other setting powder throughout the years, this is the one I always go back to. This is perfect to set your makeup, even under eye makeup. This is amazing to minimize pores and does not sink in pores like other ones I have used.

Lioele Auto Brow
Another amazing Korean makeup product I can't live without. It is so affordable(I get this from Korea and it is about CAD $8-10). This is very natural and if you are not very skilled at doing your brows like myself, you would love this. This requires little effort and even if you make a mistake, it is easy to correct.

What is on your repeat purchase list?

Obsession With Sheet Masks

When it comes to quick pampering to yourself, what better way to throw a sheet mask on and enjoy a hot bubble bath(skip the hot bath on sizzling hot summer nights :). I have been obsessing over sheet masks lately and hoarded a lot of them to try out.

Unlike makeup products, sheet masks along with skin care products, take a while for the skin to react to see the results. Sheet masks that I picked up in Toronto this time are mostly Korean brands(see my previous post for more sheet mask and skin care haul). They range from $2 to $6 a piece so they are reasonably-priced. There are some which are more than $10 a piece which I don't want to try until I have read very good reviews about them.

Besides the masks I picked up earlier in the week, these are my latest addition.

MediHeal Line Friends Aquaring Ampoule Mask
IOPE Bio Essence Facial Mask
Forencos Black Pearl Brightening Silk Mask
MediHeal Line Friends E.G. T. Timetox Ampoule Mask
Animal Mask Sheep

My sister-in-law gave me the two individual masks to try and after I tried both, decided to pick up a box from MediHeal. I picked the Aquaring ones as you can never have enough hydrating masks.

I have tried most of the 7-day masks from Forencos and they are quite good. I don't know if I try on a whole bunch within a short period of time or not, but they are very similar to me. So I just randomly picked out the Black Pearl Brightening ones in a box. Maybe when I space it out a bit and try it a couple of times a week and I will see more dramatic results.

The IOPE Bio Intensive Essence Facial Mask is recommended by the sales associate from Amore. She said her customers buy these in 5 to 10 boxes each time, claiming they are so good. I have been using the Bio Intensive Essence daily and really like what it does to my skin.

These masks are soaked in the essence and I have tried one already and honestly say I am in love. These are a bit more expensive($30 for 5 masks).  Each package has 2 masks, one for your upper face and one for your lower part of the face. They are extremely thin and how you apply is peel off one side of mesh of the mask, apply to your face and then peel off the other side of the mesh. For a good sheet mask, they feel like second-skin after application and essence get better absorbed into the skin.

Are you into sheet masks? What are your favorites?

Asian Makeup Haul(IOPE, Laneige, Forencos)

Whenever I go home to Toronto to visit my family, I always visit a couple of Asian shopping malls to browse around Asian makeup/skin care products. Especially now with the uncertainty of Canada Post, I don't want to risk buying something overseas and then not getting them for a while if there is a postal strike.

I want to try some new sheet masks to branch out from My Beauty Diary ones.

This is a Taiwanese brand called SexyLook. I have tried this already as I want to test it out and if it is any good, I want to pick a few more boxes up. This one is for hydrating and it is CAD $14.99 for 5 pcs. The price is quite ok for this as the mask is quite thin and it is designed for your neck as well.

If you are into Korean drama and you would be familiar with this face on these masks. At first, I thought they are for men but they are not. Actor Song Joong Ki is the new face for the brand: Forencos 7 Days Mask has 7 different masks catered to different types of skin.  From detox to hydration, you would find one which suits your skin best. I have tried the tea tree one and it is quite good.

My IOPE Bio Intensive Essence is down to 1/4 of the bottle down to a 1/4 so I thought I would pick another one up while I am in the city. I have tried a few other brands but they are not as effective so always go back to this one.

I love my Laneige Two-tone lip bar( I have the #2) and happy to see they have new shades available here. I picked up the shade #11 Juicy Pop. I am glad I went to the store and swatch the new shades as I never thought of getting this shade if I have just browse the shade online. It is quite a vibrant salmon coral shade with a yellow shade. When it is mixed and applied on lips, it is very flattering and this formula is more moisturizing than the old ones.

Love going in store and when they have a good promotion(free gift with $100 purchase at Amore), I got this Laneige water bank kit and a deluxe sample size of water bank gel cream, body wash and a whole bunch of samples.

Will try out my new products soon and come back soon for my thoughts and reviews on these.

July Empties

Garnier SkinActive Ultra-Lift Miracle Wake-Up Cream
Kiehl's Eye Alert
Murad Renewing Eye Cream
Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant

Finished a few skin care products which I am quite impressed. I don't switch up skin care products too much. I know once your skin is used to certain products, they would stop making an impact. I love trying out deluxe sample sized products before going out to buy the full-sized ones. I have wasted way too much money on barely-used skin care products in the past.

Dr. Brandt  Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant is an excellent exfoliant. I have used some which are too harsh to use, even once a week. And there are some which barely do anything for me even I use it every second day. This one is right between the middle. I use it every second or third day to exfoliate dead skin cells and find that helps with lightening dark spots.

A good drug store facial moisturizer is hard to come by. Garnier's SkinActive Ultra Lift Miracle Wake-Up Cream is a very good one. I was sent a full-sized one to try out and so happy about it. It is a gel-like texture. Perfect for the morning. It is very hydrating but yet not sticky.

Murad Renewing Eye Cream is an ok eye product. It doesn't do much for me and considering the hefty price tag of the full-sized one, I don't think I would run out and buy one.

Hair and Body Products:
John Frieda Frizz-Ease Weather Works Styling Creme
Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment
Glysomed Hand Cream

Candles:
Bath and Body Works Eucalyptus Mint
Bath and Body Works Tiki Mango Mai Tai

Back to my Bath and Body Works 3-wick candles. They are still the best. Burn well and even and the scent is amazing. Even though their prices have increased, wait for a good sale to stock up.
